August 2017, Asus has just announced the ranks of the latest Asus Zenfone 4 smartphone that has the slogan "We Love Photo", in which Asus Zenfone 4 Selfie (ZD553KL) is one of the members of the family of Zenfone 4. And of course, by carrying the name "Selfie", Asus Zenfone 4 Selfie smartphone is a device that is maximized to be used as a smartphone selfie with hasi photos or video for better vlog.

The two products in question are Asus Zenfone 4 Selfie and Asus Zenfone 4 Selfie Pro. Now on our test table there are both products ready to be tested and discussed more fully about the features and advantages it has. In this article, we will discuss more about Asus Zenfone 4 Selfie first.

In overall design, it must be acknowledged that Asus Zenfone 4 Selfie will actually look not much different from the design owned by several other types of smartphone brands. Dimension 155.7 x 75.9 x 7.9 mm and weighs only 144 grams, grasping this smartphone will feel thinner and may feel lighter than most other smartphones currently available, so it does not have a strong impression and even tend to be more fragile therefore the whole body quite solid.

Asus Zenfone 4 Selfie (ZD553KL) features a 5.5 inch IPS display with 720 x 1280 pixels HD resolution, with a ratio of 16: 9 and a density of ~ 267 ppi. The screen-to-body ratio of this device is 70.6%, so the user will feel how the screen will look quite relieved with the bezel or surrounding frame not too thick. The design of the screen itself is coated with a 2.5D curved display with a thinner bezel at 1.65mm, has been equipped with Bluelight filter for the user's eye comfort and has a 10-point multi touch touch capacitive touch panel, so users can still operate the smartphone screen when using a sarong hands though.

Like the smartphone in general, on the left side Asus Zenfone 4 Selfie is the position where the SIM / microSD card slot is located, while the right side is the position of the volume button and the main power button. For the top, the position of 3.5mm audio jack, while the bottom is the position of the USB 2.0 port and the main speakers.

On the bottom surface of the smartphone, just below the screen, is the primary smartphone's "key" operation position, where in the middle it is the Home button that doubles as a Fingerprint sensor.

The location of the front camera or selfie is at the top of the surface of the smartphone, where its position side by side with the location of the receiver speakers and LED flash. While for the main camera, located at the back of the body which is also the location of the LED flash located right next to the rear camera.

Asus Zenfone 4 Selfie is armed with a 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 octa-core SoC also equipped with Adreno 505 GPU, 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage, which can be added by self using microSD card up to 2TB capacity. It's a bit unfortunate that Asus does not give a much newer SoC for this one series, while it might be more interesting if the SoC is selected like Snapdragon 435 or Snapdragon 450, for example.

The featured thing on this device, as its name implies, is its front camera or selfie camera. Camera selfie which is a dual camera with 20 MP resolution sensor, f / 2.0, 31mm standard camera + 8 MP sensor, 12mm wide angle sensor that is equipped with 6P lens is certainly will be able to maximize the performance and quality produced. On this front camera, users can take photos with a wide angle up to 120 degrees and has a wider result up to 200%. Asus support for the front camera, Asus also immerse SelfieMaster application where this application allows its users to do beautification of photos or video, activate Beauty mode when using the camera for livestreaming, create collage to slideshow. Softlight LED flash is also provided on the front camera to maximize the results of lighter photos in dark lighting conditions.

As for the rear camera, using 16 MP resolution sensor that is equipped with PDAF and Pro Mode for maximum image capture. In Pro Mode, users can also be creative to take long exposure photos with shutter speed 1/16000 to 32 seconds duration. In addition to Pro mode, the camera also has a variety of other modes such as Panorama to Super Resolution.

Asus Zenfone 4 Selfie has support non-hybrid slot with the user can insert two SIM cards together with microSD card separately. This device also supports Cat 4G LTE connectivity. 4 and supports FDD-LTE and TDD-LTE according to mobile operators in Indonesia, support for WLAN 802.11 b / g / n, Bluetooth 4.1, and Wi-Fi direct. But unfortunately, we did not find any support for NFC or Wi-Fi 5GHz features on this one device.

Asus Zenfone 4 Selfie uses ZenUI latest version 4.0 based on Android 7.0 Nougat, and has a capacity of 3000mAh battery. But unfortunately, on this one type, Asus does not seem to include also features Fast Charging to speed up battery charge recharging.

Asus Zenfone 4 Selfie, as its name suggests, features its front camera features. Armed with 20 megapixel resolution camera sensor coupled with 8 megapixel wide angle resolution camera sensor, Asus Zenfone 4 Sefie is certainly expected to capture selfie photos that have the best quality and photo results.

To enable bokeh features owned by this device, the user needs to activate the "Potrait" mode to allow the device to focus the camera on detected photo objects. By enabling this mode, the user can take a photo of the human object or the user himself with the effect of blur in the background. But unfortunately, the resulting blur effect can be spelled out too strongly, especially when trying to take photos in a location that is quite bright, especially without the features of the blur effect strength effect. So the results of bokeh photos that are displayed instead become less interesting to see when compared with selfie photos without using the effect of the blur.

Features for the selfie camera itself there are quite a lot, where not only has the Beautification with manual settings to set how "clean" face will be captured later on, in the selfie camera users can photo group selfie wider or width thanks to wide angle sensor owned this device. It's just unfortunately, the quality of resolution that is held when taking a wide angle photograph is only between 6 megapixels or 8 megapixels only, so the quality of the photos will not be sharp when using a standard selfie camera. Even so, for just a busy photo with colleagues, friends. or family to then uploaded to social media, the resulting image has been more than enough.

The main camera itself has a 16 megapixel resolution sensor, where the resulting image with a resolution smaller than its selfie camera actually has the potential to produce more detailed images and quite promising. Although it must be admitted that there is still a small amount of noise generated in the lighting conditions are less bright, but some of the images taken look still able to provide good enough photo detail when zoomed though. With the provision of Pro mode, of course users can tamper with their own settings when taking a photo of a particular object or location to make it more interesting. The rear camera also allows users to recap 1080p FHD quality video at 30fps and is also equipped with 3 axis EIS (electronic image stabilization) to make the recordings more stable.

Selfie Master

This application is a default application Asus Zenfone 4 Selfie device, where this application has the function to be able to maximize the results of selfie photos and video through the front camera. In the Selfie Master application, there are five main functions that can be used, namely Photo, Video, Beauty Live, Collage, and Slideshow. Photos and videos may also be found through the camera's built-in camera apps, where precisely the features and manual settings have more variations, especially to produce depth in field images or better bokeh effects. In Selfie Master, the captured photos and videos can only be set to the Beauty level. What makes this app even more appealing is its ability to take video for livestreaming that can be shared for the YouTube, Facebook or Instagram platforms. In addition, users can still activate the Beauty mode as well as set the level of Beautification in the Beauty Live feature.

3000mAh capacity, Asus Zenfone 4 Selfie unfortunately not equipped with Fast Charging ability to recharge power faster. So from the results of measuring the duration of battery recharging, coupled with the length of time the device to be switched on when connected with the charger, Asus Zenfone 4 Selfie takes 3 hours 3 minutes to be fully refilled.

If you look in terms of overall design, the appearance of Asus Zenfone 4 Selfie will probably have a generic impression and not much different than the various other types of smartphone brands that design almost similar. Although it must be admitted, the design of Zenfone 4 Selfie will now be sleeker, flatter, and quite light compared with the previous series that has a more curved rear body design. Using unibody metal finishing, Zenfone 3 Selfie will look more elegant. But there is still a sense of slippery when holding it, although this can be solved directly by using the softcase innate sales package.

In terms of performance, Asus Zenfone 4 Selfie itself is quite promising, by relying on SoC Snapdragon 430 and RAM coupled with a large enough storage, which is in 4 GB and 64 GB. Accompanied by an external microSD slot that can be expanded up to 256 GB capacity, it certainly makes this device quite attractive for those who are looking for large capacity devices to save data, especially photo or video data.

Although the selfie camera is not really bad when taking regular photos, but rather unfortunately the effects of blur or bokeh produced tend to be strong and even look less attractive or optimal because of it. The main camera itself will probably have better photo results and has pretty good detail, especially when manually set up your own settting for certain photo conditions.

Features and support of this device is also complete, with already has 4G LTE connectivity, a fairly complete sensor including Fingerprint, SIM1 / SIM2 tray slot is separated with a microSD card slot, and a large enough battery at 3000mAh. But unfortunately, large battery capacity is not supported by the Fast Charging feature, so it takes a longer time to be able to recharge the power until full again.
