Xiaomi Redmi Note 5A Smartphone Review

Beginning in November 2017, Xiaomi introduce one more smartphone products that will belong to the ranks of the latest Redmi Note smartphone, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5A. Slightly different from other Redmi Note ranks, Redmi Note 5A will be more focused on smartphone for entry level market rather than middle range like the previous series, but still sponsor big screen and battery capacity.

For the overall design, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5A has no significant design changes, except for the absence of Fingerprint sensors on the rear body, as well as position changes for the rear camera and LED flash. Redmi Note 5A has dimensions of 153 x 76.2 x 7.55 mm with a weight of 150g. The screen itself has a 5.5 inch IPS size with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixel HD that has been coated with Corning Gorilla Glass to protect the screen from dust, scratches or scratches when used.

The right side of the smartphone is the position of the main operating button, the Volume button and the Power button. While on the left side of the smartphone is the position where the SIM1 / SIM2 + microSD card slot is located. The thing that makes Redmi Note 5A is quite interesting is the fact that the dual SIM slot and microSD card separated into 3 tray, so users can conveniently put two SIM cards at once with a microSD card as an additional storage.

The bottom of the smartphone is positioned for the microUSB port, the main speakers and the mic. While for the top is the position for 3.5mm audio jack port, mic for noise reduction, as well as Infrared sensor.

The operating button for the UI itself is in the bottom surface of the smartphone, which unfortunately may be less obvious if the color variant is a gray / black color variant, especially this button does not have a backlight feature that will make it easier for users to view its position with clear.

For the position of the front camera, located on the top surface of the smartphone that resides with the receiver speakers. As for the rear camera, instead of being in the middle of the top as in the previous series, the main camera position is now in the upper left corner in the rear body of the camera, along with LED flash.

The contents of the box sales can be spelled out very simple, with only include adapter, microUSB cable, user manual, and pin to open the SIM / microSD card tray.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 5A does have a lower specification compared to the previous Note 4, which is armed with SoC Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 quad-core Cortex-A53 with Adreno 308 GPU, equipped with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal capacity that can be added up to 128GB with external microSD . It should be admitted that RAM and internal capacity is quite a bit lower when compared with some other types of smartphones, especially on the storage that is only enough to accommodate 16GB only, not including the remaining storage needed to store system data. But this can be little diperlega with a special tray for a separate microSD card with dual SIM card.

Its main camera uses a 13-megapixel resolution sensor with f / 2.2 openings and supports Auto Focus Phase Detection technology that also comes with a variety of other features such as HDR, Panorama, Low Light to Filters and Mode for various situations and locations. While the front camera or selfie has a 5 megapixel resolution sensor with f / 2.0 openings, which is equipped with a variety of Beautify features, such as Face Recognition and beauty profiles of 36 pieces to be able to detect the age and gender of the user more accurately.

4G LTE connectivity is also supported on this device, and dual SIM function in the device means that both have 4G LTE connectivity but can not be used both at once. So when used, only one of the slots that support 4G connectivity while the other can only 3G / 2G. LTE support itself is already designed in such a way as to support 4G connectivity in Indonesia today. Redmi Note 5A also supports WiFi 801.11 b / g / n, WiFi Direct, and Bluetooth 4.2 HID. Unfortunately, there is no dual-band WiFi function or NFC on this one device.

For the completeness of the sensor itself, Xiaomi Redmi Note 5A seems to have a variety of major sensors that have become the basic needs of today's smartphone users, with various sensors such as GPS, Accelerometer, Proximity, Gyro, and even Infrared to be able to use the remote control function using the device Xiaomi. Unfortunately, since this device is not intended for a much higher market, we do not find the presence of OIS or EIS sensors for cameras and video, as well as Fingerprint sensors.

Its 3080mAh battery is not as massive as the previous 4 Note 4000mAh, although Xiaomi claims that the large battery can make Redmi Note 5A workable for at least 11 hours of video playback, 16 hours of gaming, up to 35 hours of call time. So naturally, Redmi Note 5A will have a long duration of battery is quite good, though probably not during its predecessor that has a larger capacity and battery management is also better. And a little unfortunate, for this series there is no Quick Charge feature that can help charging the battery can run faster.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 5A runs with MIUI 9 based on Android 7.0 Nougat. For now, there is no official certainty whether this version will be updated for Android O in the future.

In terms of main camera that has a resolution of 13 MP, and can be spelled out that the quality of the given image is not exactly ugly and has a decent shutter speed when taking photos. In some lighting conditions, the images can be quite bright and look natural with a level of color that is not excessive. Although it must be admitted that the images may look less detailed and even less sharp when lighting conditions start less bright.

To be able to overcome this a bit, to be able to maximize the results of images in certain lighting conditions, congenital camera applications already provide some type of Scene Mode that can be selected by the user, depending on the situation of the location or object of the photograph. To further maximize again, the main camera also provides Manual mode to self-manage White Balance or ISO required. Unfortunately, this Manual mode also does not include Exposure settings.

While for the camera selfie on this device, with a 5 MP sensor, may look normal to tend to average. Xiaomi claims that the software for Beautify on the front of this camera has been maximized to be able to take selfie photos that have differences and can look more natural depending on the profile of each user as measured by age and gender. When enabled, the device is able to detect some facial profile points and show the age and gender of the user, so expect selfie photos can be in accordance with the wishes, not just simply enlightened or mashed solely on the face.

For the next test, we are still using a test measuring how long the smartphone can last when playing 720p quality video in a looping condition using the MXPlayer app until the battery is empty. The result, Xiaomi Redmi Note 5A can last up to 10 hours 19 minutes.

Battery owned by Xiaomi Redmi Note 5A can be said not too big compared with the previous series, with unfortunately not equipped with the ability Fast Charging or similar to be able to recharge power faster. So from the results of measuring the duration of battery recharging, Xiaomi Redmi Note 5A takes 3 hours 35 minutes to be fully refilled.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 5A may not have much higher specifications compared to the previous Redmi Note 4, it will even look lower than the previous series. Nevertheless, Redmi Note 5A is indeed more favored the overall level of entry level capability with a very affordable price, so it must be recognized that the specifications it has is more than enough to be used in everyday, to rule out the performance that may be still slightly below expectations .

As a device aimed at those who have a small budget, Xiaomi Redmi Note 5A this feels enough to be used everyday. With overall performance not too low, the camera is okay enough to be uploaded to social media, until the battery life is also not exactly bad for the size of 3080mAh capacity. In fact, this device also comes with 3 separate trays to be pinned two SIM cards and microSD card at the same time for the convenience of its users.

The quality of the design and build of the body itself also includes smooth and sturdy enough, though it must be recognized the rear body still feels slippery when used so it will require additional casing again. Which is quite unfortunate is the absence of Fingerprint sensor on this device, and the length of time required to be refilled again because it is not equipped with Quick Charge feature.
